Yoga

Yoga is an ancient form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing to boost physical and mental wellbeing. The main components of yoga are postures (a series of movements designed to increase strength and flexibility) and breathing. 

The practice originated in India about 5,000 years ago and has been adapted in other countries in a variety of ways.

Most studies suggest yoga is a safe and effective way to increase physical activity, especially strength, flexibility and balance. There's some evidence that regular yoga practice is beneficial for people with high blood pressure, heart disease, aches and pains – including lower back pain – depression and stress.

Yoga improves balance by strengthening your lower body – particularly your ankles and knees – thereby reducing your chances of falling. People often start yoga in their 70s, and many say they wish they had started sooner. There are yoga classes for every age group. Yoga is a form of exercise that can be enjoyed at any time, from childhood to your advanced years.

You can join a class suitable for your fitness level. For example, to join a mixed-ability yoga class, you need to be able to get up and down from the floor. Some yoga classes are chair-based.

Yoga will improve your flexibility and help you go beyond your normal range of movement, which may make performing your daily activities easier.

There are many different styles of yoga. Some styles are more vigorous than others, while some may have a different area of emphasis, such as posture or breathing. Many yoga teachers develop their own practice by studying more than one style. No style is necessarily better or more authentic than any other. The key is to choose a class appropriate for your fitness level. If training on a one to one level, your instructor can help you to choose/blend styles suitable for you.

Your programme is tailored to suit the equipment and space you have available. (Hotel room work-outs are a speciality for online programmes!) Nutrition is not forgotten on your detailed programme; eating habits will be assessed, so that you can see how to make small but lasting changes towards a healthier and fitter lifestyle.

Personal training is offered at TruthPie, Online and on a Mobile basis (to be discussed upon request).

Dance classes were my introduction to 'fitness'. A total accident that the hobby, and then profession, I chose would also give me a fabulous way to support my health. Now it is my goal to make sure you get to exercise (ouch, I said that word!) in a way that you enjoy.

Private coaching is offered in dance-based exercise, and can be tailored to the setting and style you prefer. If you want upbeat, cardio moves, then that's where we'll go with it, or if you prefer a calm class to support your wellbeing journey in relaxation, then I can easily create a space for you to move with that in mind. It is just as important to choose a style that suits your lifestyle goals, as it is to turn up to a class. That's why I make it my main aim to consider what you are looking for in your lifestyle, not just your body.

If you suffer with stress, depression or anxiety, the correct movement style can really benefit any other personal growth you are making. You may find yourself regularly feeling down or withdrawn, and the last thing you want is to face a room of energetic gym-bunnies, so a gentle supportive approach to a more energising class can be just the thing to jump that hurdle and help you feel supported. Alternatively, a busy work life, probably means you'd benefit from a relaxing ballet floor-barre or a slower paced energy-release. Anxiety-sufferers need more than just slowing down those fast-paced thoughts. In your class, I would focus on movements to ground and balance both body and mind.

Sessions can take place either at your home in the Andover area or in my space (Andover). If you opt for a session in my space, it will be a mat-based session. Otherwise, I can tailor a session to suit your home."
